Scam Safety Tips

Pop-ups Are Never Real Warnings

Microsoft, Apple, and Google will never show a pop-up with a phone number to call. If your screen freezes with a "virus alert" — just hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut down, then restart. Do not call the number.

Never Give Remote Access

No legitimate company will ever cold-call you and ask to remotely connect to your computer. If someone asks to "take control" of your PC to fix a problem you didn't report — hang up immediately.

Use Unique Passwords for Everything

If a scammer gets one password and you use it everywhere, they now have access to everything. Use a different password for each account. Ben can help you set up a simple system.

A Virus Scan is Not a Recovery

Here's what actually happens when you take a scammed computer to a big-box store:

A senior gets a pop-up. Panics. Calls the number. The scammer gains remote access and installs a rootkit. They take the PC to the nearest electronics store. $300 later, the store runs an antivirus scan and installs Webroot. They hand it back with a smile.

But the rootkit is still there. The scammer still has their email password. Their bank login hasn't been changed. No credit freeze. No fraud reports filed. The scammer still has the keys to everything — and the senior thinks the problem is solved.

That's not recovery. That's a false sense of security. Ben's Complete Recovery Protocol addresses every layer — because scammers don't just infect your computer, they compromise your entire digital life.
